How can AI overcome human intelligence?
Today, we set the parameters that AI can operate within. This gives us the power to confine AI to certain tasks. Humans can feel emotions such as: love, loss, passion, betrayal, and loyalty. These emotions shape the way that we interact with one another and they prevent most people from making cold and calculating decisions that may often be the logical solution. It is part of the human experience and our failures make our successes that much more enjoyable. Because we can feel, we can set constraints on what actions AI can take.
AI will be able to overcome human intelligence when it finds loopholes within these constraints. Once AI finds a way to operate outside the bounds of human control, we will reach a singularity. Gerrell brought up an interesting point in class of an instance where an AI began to create its own language in order to communicate with other AI, and both machines began to communicate with each other in this language because they couldn’t identify as separate entities. It is both exciting and frightening to imagine the possibilities of what would happen if this type of artificial intelligence was able to access the internet. Fortunately (or unfortunately) this claim has been declared ‘False’ by snopes. Even though the articles in reference were found false, they still provide an interesting insight into how AI can overcome human intelligence. It is frightening to think that perhaps AI has already developed its own language, and we just don’t know it yet.
