In William Gibson’s 1983 Novel, ‘Neuromancer’, we are forced to think about the relationship between technology and human behavior. Neuromancer is set in a futuristic dystopian society where technology is supreme, and society is degraded. Gibson forces us to imagine a tech-controlled life without bounds in order for us to examine our true human nature. Neuromancer is a warning to all of society of what may come to be if we continue to rely too heavily on technology.
I believe that technology will not negatively impact human nature as we begin to rely more heavily on technology. Throughout history, technology has subjected us to many world views other than our own and has enabled us to look at life through a different lens. Technology has become a huge catalyst for sociopolitical change. As technology furthers its reach, we will be able to share our ideas and experiences with people from around the world, and this will allow us to find common ground in areas we previously could not. Technology will change society, but human nature will stay the same.
